Those who appreciated his intellectual worth could never understand why he wanted to associate with the mob - whether it was the Smethwick mob of 1926 or the fascist mob of the 1930s. Right politics, but wrong crowd, was their sad, but inevitable, lament. To this Mosley had a ready answer. The `right crowd' newer wanted to do right thing.
